How much fiber per day do you need?

Updated: Feb 17, 2023

We all need fiber. Fiber keeps the colon happy and if the colon ain't happy, the body ain't happy.

The American Heart Association Eating Plan suggests eating a variety of food fiber sources. Total dietary fiber intake should be 25 to 30 grams a day from food, not supplements.

Why is digesting fiber in food form important?

Think of your colon as the recycling and garbage disposal center of the house but it's even more important. If we don't recycle at home, maybe we feel the ethical sting, but if your body isn't recycling well, you're on your way to serious chronic disease.

Your colon has a MAJOR role in homeostasis (normal, balanced bodily function). It absorbed water and helps keep you fluid balanced, it helps recycle important salts and other molecules and it participated in vitamin activation. Many people don't know that gut bacteria play a major role in activating vitamins. Without this molecular modification (activation), the vitamin is basically useless and often gets pooped out. Keep your colon happy!

The best way to do this is to make sure you're getting fiber. Fiber is a broad class of large molecules that cannot be absorbed into your blood. It therefore gets passed down into the colon where it feeds gut bacteria (bacteria LOVE fiber) and support bowel movements by adding bulk and helping modulate water absorption.

With every serving of Tchê you are consuming fiber. We don't use peppermint extract, we give you whole peppermint. We don't use yerba mate extracts, we give you whole yerba mate plant. We don't use quinoa extracts, we give you whole plant quinoa. You get the plant, not a supplement.

Keep your colon happy, activate those vitamins, drink Tchê!

Currently, dietary fiber intakes among adults in the United States average about 15 grams a day, which falls short of the recommended amount of 25 to 30 grams daily.
